Core Network Planning Engineer the incumbent will be in charge of all planning .This involves planning , architectural design and implementation of projects .
The Manager.Core Network Planning will provide Strategic and Operational Leadership to ensure the efficient .Youwill be in charge of design and planning of all systems, network elements and applications that are defined by 3GPP as part of GSM Core Network.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Planning:
- Ensurefuture proof Core network design to guarantee deliverables are met according to customer requirements both internal and external
- Activeparticipation in expansion and growth of the network
- TranslateTKL’s Business plan and subscriber growth assumptions into the requirements for the Core Network and requirements for the IP Network
- Strategicallydrive the Design and plan for cost efficient/least cost core, to support rollout with a 3+ year time horizon taking cognizance of technology
Capacity Planning and network architectural design:
- Maintainscapacity and functionality requirements for the PS Core, CS Core network according to departmental KPI’s and in line with the company and regulatory requirements
- Developpolicies on the deployment of selected equipment
- Approvedetailed Product and Service design (route sizes, )
- Approveequipment configurations to be ordered from supplier(s) including cost control
- Ensuresthat all the licensing requirements are met and controls budget directly related to any upgrades or licensing requirements, mission, objectives and customersatisfaction indices Sufficient headroom according to KPI’s to provide flexibility in customer and traffic growth
Vendor Management:
- Participateas technical lead in all procurement negotiations with vendors and select vendors based on technical expertise and ability to rollout
- Haveweekly/monthly meetings with vendor especially during
Core Network Rollout:
- OverseeRollout of the core network
- Ensureon time planning and designs are released
- Overseeand drive rollout, installation and integration of new nodes and systems
Core Network Performance:
- Oversee,drive and manage network performance in the core areas
- Provideweekly and monthly reporting on performance
- Listall KPIs that need to be monitored on the Core Network
Skill and Competencies Development:
- Managesthe issues relating to resource requirements to complete critical design, planning and process tasks
- OverseePDP processes of direct reports
- Recruits,develops, and retains people with outstanding potential
- Accountablefor development of talent – builds strong and deep
Academic background & Professional Knowledge Required
- Must hold a BSc Electrical or Telecommunications or Computer Engineering
- Masters is an added advantage
- Hold a professional certification in Technology Architecture like ITIL,
- Hold a Professional certification in Project Management e.g. PMP, Agile, Prince2
- Demonstrate knowledge in Cloud Virtualization and cloud technologies e.g. Containerization.
Technical Competencies
- GSM/WCDMA and LTE mobile network concepts
- Must have worked with ZTE/Huawei/NEC/Ericsson
- At least 7 years in GSM Core Network Planning or operations
- ∙Additional Training in Network planning & optimization, Advanced Telecommunications and network overview, Supervisory and Leadership Training
